SALVATION: GOD’S FINISHED WORK (12)

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus”. – 2 Timothy 3:15

LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s rest is in salvation.

Having established that Brother Moses used earthly things in communicating spiritual realities, we can deduce that the actions of Adam were spiritual and not physical. This is why when the Jews waited to indict him about the actions of his disciples; he said things eaten do not defile a man, rather what comes out of a man.

Let us see how Jesus explains Adam’s sin in Matthew 15:11-20. “Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.” Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? Do not ye yet understand that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly and is cast out into the draught? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man”.

Brother Paul also explains in Romans 5:12 “Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned”. That means by Adam, something that wasn’t in the world, was introduced; the question is, “what was introduced?” Disobedience. Remember, Moses said “God looked at all that he made, and it was good” (Genesis 1:7). So, if all God created was good, then where did sin come from? Sin came from Adam; and Adam’s sin was his disobedience to the call of God. Genesis 2:17 also records “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die”.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Therefore, we see how man consciously rejected God’s plan of salvation. However, since God is a sovereign being, his plan for salvation preceded man’s fall. Glory!
