“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”. – Romans 10:8-10
LIGHT FOR NOW: We have the God-kind of faith.
In today’s study, we will be considering the characteristics of faith. It is important to note that for a person’s action to be termed ‘biblical faith’, certain requirements must be met. One of such requirements is “having a firm conviction that God’s promises are true”.
Proverbs 30:5-6 (ESV) Every word of God proves true…” So, God can not say a word, and he does not keep to it. Hence, believers ought to believe completely without any iota of doubt that he who promises is faithful and just to fulfill all his promises.
Another important characteristic is conduct that is inspired as a result of total surrender to God’s promises or God’s words. This means that if a man says he has faith in God, then he shouldn’t grumble, complain, or have doubts in his heart when things don’t go the way he planned. A significant idea about faith that every man or believer ought to know is that faith is not self-produced. It is a gift, and the only way to get this gift is to sit under the right tutelage. This is evident in Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God – not the result of works, so that no one may boast”. So, even the faith which we have comes first as God’s gift to us. Glory!
