THE KNOWLEDGE OF PRAYER VERSUS PRAYING ITSELF

“And the continued steadfastly in the epistles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” – Acts 2:42

LIGHT FOR NOW: God talks to you in his word and by his word, and you talk to God in prayer and by prayer.

A great theologian and scholar of the bible with the name Charles Spurgeon said something crucial about prayers, he said “When asked, between prayer and the study of God’s word, which is more important? Between breathing in and breathing out, which is more important?” In essence, that analogy likens the study of God’s word to breathing in air (inhabitation) while prayer is likened to breathing out air (exhalation). And of course you need both inhalation and exhalation to stay alive. You can’t say inhalation is more important than exhalation. If you say so, you will discover that breathing out is as important as breathing in. In essence, prayer is as important as the study of God’s word. Prayer and the study of God’s word goes together, just like breathing in and breathing out goes together.

Note: In breathing in or in inhalation, we take in oxygen, and in exhalation we send out carbon(iv)oxide. In essence, in the place of study, we take in God’s word, while we speak out God’s word in prayers. In studying God’s word, God’s word enters in, while in prayers you let the word out in communion and fellowship. In studying God’s word, God’s word is talking to you, while in prayers you are talking to God. In studying God’s word, God talks to you via his word and you listen, then in prayers you talk to God or take his word back to him and he listens; and by virtue of prayer being a communion, God can by his spirit respond to you. If a man thus wants to hear God speaking, he studies God’s word because God’s word is God’s voice to us or God speaking to us. Then in the place of prayer, a man speaks to God and God hears. So, the study of God’s word and prayers are necessities for every believer. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Listen to God in study and talk to God in prayers.

CONFESSION: Father I hear your voice as I study and I talk to you as I pray, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: Prayer and the study of God’s word are like breathing in and breathing out, one is not less important of the other.
