ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST (1)

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.” – John 5:24-27

LIGHT FOR NOW: A man that is not in Christ does not have eternal life.

John in our text here gives us a lead to a vital truth that we must not lose sight of. Jesus makes it clear here that when a man believes in the Father which is the same thing as believing in him, that man who believes has everlasting life. In other words, it is in believing that a man receives eternal life. That’s why John 3:16 will say “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Believing in Christ here is the emphasis, which is how a man receives eternal life. Life in Christ therefore is eternal life. A man that is not in Christ does not have this life; this man is a walking corpse; yes, he may be healthy and strong physically but he is dead towards God because he is separated from the life of God. The worst form of dead is separation from God; from the life of God. That is why an unbeliever, a man that has not believed the gospel is in a pathetic state; he is a walking dead and if he dies physically in that state of separation from the life of God or unbelief to God’s goodness in Christ, he has by his choice chose the place of the dead (hell; a place for spiritually dead people). That’s why the good news in John 5:24 is to the believer in Christ, who has the life of God; this man shall not come into condemnation, but this man is passed from death unto life.

Thus, to the believer in Christ, when his spirit leaves his body, it is not a death but a sleep. This is because he will rise again; hence, Paul said the dead in Christ shall arise. What is the guarantee of this happening in your life? Eternal life is the guarantee that if you die today before the rapture, you will rise again on the rapture. By placing your faith in Christ, you have eternal life, and it is eternal. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Eternal life is at work in you, acknowledge it!

Prayer: I have eternal life at work in me now. So I shall not come into condemnation. I have been passed from death to life, in Jesus Name, Amen

QUOTE: Man is lifeless without eternal life.
