“For as much as you know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold from your vain conversation received tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ as a lamb without blemish and without spot.” – 1Peter 1:8-19
LIGHT FOR NOW: Redemption is God’s perfect will for man.
Jesus Christ bought our freedom, and His blood became the payment for man’s redemption. Therefore, Jesus is man’s one and only redeemer who was divinely appointed by God himself. Christ’s redemptive work is a representation of His love for mankind and the father’s (God) love for mankind. However, having established this, it is of utmost importance to look into some implications of Christ’s redemptive work. Redemption results in adoption. Galatians 4:4-6 says “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the spirit of his son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father”.
When a believer receives the life which Christ offers, he automatically becomes a son of God and shares in God’s divine inheritance as seen in Colossians 1:12. Furthermore, redemption assures us of complete and total forgiveness of sins. Ephesians 1:7 says “In him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of the grace. Also, redemption is the reason for the believer’s justification. Romans 3:23-24 records this. Redemption offers a believer eternal inheritance. Hebrews 9:15 “Therefore, He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant”. So, redemption offers us eternal inheritance on a platter. It is important to note that the inheritance being spoken of is not cars, house, money, shoes or clothes rather it is eternal life. In redemption, all believers are redeemed as kings and Priest. Glory!
