“I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus ” – Philemon 1:4-6
LIGHT FOR NOW: Coming with the believers’ identity is his authority in Christ.
We have said that the concept of the believer’s authority is a vital fact of the gospel. Thus, living as a believer without knowing your authority is living as though there was no authority at all. The authority of the believer is not something that you wouldn’t need, it is a must need and that is why God made it available to every believer. As we keep studying, you will discover that your authority in Christ as a believer is not just available, it is a necessity. Your authority as a believer is not like an ornament; it is necessary. God knew you will need it and that is why it is available for you in Christ. More so, as we study through, you will discover that the authority of the believer is not an afterthought of the father. God knew you will need this authority as a believer; hence, he made it available. And there is no way authority is given without reasons. So what then is the reason for the believer’s authority? The authority of the believer is not just available, it is a necessity.
Part of what you have by your identity in Christ is your authority in Christ. So, the believer’s authority is a vital fact of the believer’s identity. That is why the authority is “in Christ”. By saying “in Christ” which will open up as the study progresses, “in Christ” carries the concept of identification. Our realities in Christ are a product of our identification with Christ. One of these realities in Christ is our authority in Christ. So this authority that we will be investigating in this study is not political authority or any kind of authority, it is the authority that transcends all other kinds of authority. It is the authority of the believer in Christ. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Follow the study.
CONFESSION: The understanding of my authority comes to the fore in this study, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: The believer’s authority is a by-product of the believers’ identity.
