“I am crucified in Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” – Galatians 2:20
LIGHT FOR NOW: You were crucified with Christ to live with Him again.
To be crucified with Christ means that you have been judged, condemned, declared an outcast, stripped naked and nailed to the cross just as Christ was. The thought of crucifixion to a Jew especially a Pharisee brought shame and horror. So, when you identify yourself with the Saviour Jesus, that moment, you are crucified with Him. You become like Paul, an outcast. No wonder Paul said in Galatians 6:14 that the world had been unto him, and that he had been crucified unto the world. As a believer like Paul, the world has been stripped naked to you. There is no longer any delusion as regards to it; you can no longer be deceived in it. You now know the cruelty that is in the world. You have felt its lashes just like Christ did; you have been stripped naked to the world just like Christ was.
Paul also understood what crucifixion actually means. He saw his identification with Christ in his crucifixion. Crucifixion does not just mean death, but it means union with Christ in his disgrace, pains and sufferings on the cross. Romans 6:6 states, “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin”. Crucifixion points the way to death. What this means is that your old man, the hidden man of the heart, your spirit, the real man who was filled with spiritual death and Adamic nature was nailed to the cross in Christ. Christ went to the cross, not for Himself, not as a martyr, but as your substitute. You were nailed to the cross with Christ and crucified with Him. To the Jews, their thoughts were to get rid of Him; but in the mind of justice, it was his identification with humanity in its sin and suffering and your identification with him in his crucifixion. Rejoice because as He is in glory, so are you today. You are no longer bound or a slave to sin and there is no more death for you. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Walk in the newness of life.
CONFESSION: Lord, thank you for the privilege to be identified with you and you be glorified in me, in Jesus name, Amen.
QUOTE: At identification with Christ, his crucifixion became your crucifixion and his glorification upon his resurrection became yours.
