“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand” – John 10:28-29
LIGHT FOR NOW: Eternal life is received once, and once it is received, don’t think of losing it because it is not loose able, it is eternal.
The word “eternal life” which is “aionios zoe” in the Greek means:
- Life is absolute
- Life that is complete
- Life that cannot be changed
- Life that cannot be lost
- Life that came from God himself.
This shows that eternal life once received cannot be nullified or undone. It is a life that cannot be lost, so you can’t be thinking of losing eternal life as a believer. People who struggle to grasp this fact that eternal life once received cannot be lost, are struggling from a vocabulary or grammatical problem. This is because you can’t say “eternal life” with that word “eternal” in it and still say it can be lost. If it can be lost, then change it from “eternal life” to “temporary life”. Jesus in our above key text did not say “I give unto them a temporary life” but it is eternal life. The Amplified Version of John 10:28-29 will echo this, it reads “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages [To all eternity they shall never by any means be destroyed.] And no one is able to snatch them out of my hand. My Father, Who has given them to me, is greater and mightier than all [else]; and no one is able to snatch [them] out of the Father’s hand” (AMPC). Glory!
Eternal life once received cannot be lost. Eternal life is a forever life; it is everlasting life. Eternal is timeless; so this eternal life is not for a certain period of time. Eternal life is at work in you. Think of it: Eternal life that is not eternal is not eternal life. Little wonder the writer of Hebrews will say in Hebrews 7:25 “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that comes unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them”. So how long are you saved? You are saved to the uttermost. The word “uttermost” means forever. How long do you have eternal life? You have eternal life eternally. Eternal life flows through the fibre of your being for how long? It flows forever. You are eternally saved. You have eternal life eternally. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: You have eternal life eternally. Acknowledge this!
CONFESSION: I affirm that I am eternally saved. God’s life which is eternal flows through my veins.
QUOTE: Eternal life that is not eternal is not eternal life.
