“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand” – John 10:28-29
LIGHT FOR NOW: In receiving everlasting life, one has only one access code and that is, believing in Christ.
Jesus’ words “And I give unto them eternal life…” above already points to the fact that eternal life is a gift. A gift obviously is not something you work for; it is not something you merit by faith; it is not something you earn. A gift is what is voluntarily given to another; without effort and without change. So, eternal life being a free gift means it is without change; it only has to be received. It is one thing for a gift to be given and another thing for the gift to be received. If someone gives you a gift and then you reject the gift; then the gift is not yours. This is because you have not received it or claimed ownership of the gift. The gift of eternal life is received through believe; believing in Christ. And the scriptures are replete on this.
In John 3:16, John says “For God so love the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life”. Observe he says “whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life”. So, everlasting life or eternal life is received by believing. Believing therefore, is the password to receiving everlasting life. That’s why John 3:18 emphasizes again on believing, it reads “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God”. Again, believing is the emphasis. So, in receiving everlasting life, believing is your access code. Faith in Christ therefore, imparts the life of God into your very being. Everlasting life is your present day reality and identity in Christ because you believed. You will not have everlasting life, you have everlasting life already. God will not give you everlasting life at the end of your life; you began your Christian life with everlasting life. Everlasting life therefore is not at the end of the life of a believer; it is in the beginning of the life of a believer. Glory!!
INSTRUCTION: Acknowledge that you have everlasting life.
CONFESSION: By my faith in Christ, the very life of God became my life; therefore, I live out that life in this world.
QUOTE: Believing is the password to receiving eternal life.
