“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.” – Isaiah 60:1-5
LIGHT FOR NOW: In systematically reading the scriptures, you give yourself an edge to understanding the author’s intent and communication systematically.
We have in our previous studies up till last study instructively elaborated the organized order the scripture ought to be read. In essence, from what we’ve seen so far, we can deduce that the scriptures was written in such a way that you have to read it together.
- You don’t pick a verse and read it in negligence of the surrounding verses.
- You don’t pick words of scripture and interpret it as a stand-alone.
Also take note:
- You don’t give a blanket or omnibus meaning and application to:
- Words of scriptures
- Statements in scriptures
- Verses of scriptures
Also, it’s important to note that:
- The scriptures are such that you cannot interpret it in isolation of other scriptures.
- Interpreting a bible text or verse in isolation of the surrounding texts or verses is a track taken to end up in misinterpretation.
- A track to misinterpretation is reading bible texts in isolation.
Reading the bible together is how you will understand the bible in context. Therefore, the whole bible read together is the whole bible read in context. A text of scripture read in isolation is a text of scriptures that will suffer misinterpretation and misapplication. Bible reading therefore, demands a systematic approach. You will hardly misinterpret bible texts if you give it a systematic approach in the place of reading. Again, don’t isolate bible texts while reading, read the entire body, and its surroundings to grasp the communication systematically and in context. Keep following the study. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: Be an ardent reader of scriptures.
PRAYER: Diligence in the place of bible study is ignited in me like never before, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: Systematically read the scriptures to systematically understand so as not to end in misinterpretation.
