“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.” – Isaiah 60:1-5
LIGHT FOR NOW: You must be diligent enough in bible reading whereby you pay attention to the finest of details while reading texts of the books of the bible.
The rule of systematic bible reading and interpretation is beginning to come clear to us and the necessity of this rule is beginning to come to the fore. We’ve made it clear using the Matthew 6 analogy that a word, phrase or statement can be made in one book of the scriptures, and that statement is clearly explained in another text of scripture. Matthew 6:11 for instance where we have “daily bread” (a bread that when one eats, he never gets hungry) finds its explanation in John 6 where Jesus calls himself that bread of life that when a man eats he will never get hungry again (John 6:33-63). Hence, we also said that the bible is such that one can read forward and backward; in an ascending order and descending order, and why did we say so? This is because in your systematic reading of the scriptures, you can find a verse or chapter while reading forward that explains something you had read in preceding chapters and books.
And so in that case, you go backwards to read again what you had found in its explanation while reading forward. If for instance you read a verse or chapter in Romans that makes clear what you read in Acts, then you have to go back again to Acts for a re-reading and this re-reading is for a full comprehension of the explanation in Romans to have effect as you re-read Acts of the Apostle. Already by looking at this, you know that bible reading and interpretation is not a child’s play. You cannot afford to be lazy. You can’t be lazy, and you want to systematically read the bible, and equally read it forward and backward; it’s impossible. It is hard work and diligence; it is labourious. You must exert yourself. Just like Paul said to Timothy in 2Timothy 2:15, you must be diligent to shew yourself approved by God. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: You must be diligent in bible study.
PRAYER: I declare that the attribute and attitude of diligence manifest through me in the study of God’s word, in Jesus Name, Amen.
