ALIVE IN CHRIST (10)

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” – 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

LIGHT FOR NOW: The forgiveness of sins is only available in the blood of Jesus.

God’s ultimate solution to sin is the death and resurrection of Jesus. The solution never came from man but from God, as man couldn’t contribute anything to procure his salvation; hence, as believers, we ought to remain eternally grateful for the assurance of salvation. The forgiveness of sins is only available in the blood of Jesus. And it is repeatedly captured in scriptures that the mission of Jesus Christ to this earth was to deal with sin. For example, in Matthew 1:21, the scripture says, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins”. Beloved, why you will never be condemned as a believer is because Jesus was punished for your sins even before you committed them; and that is what the gospel is about. “For God so loved the world that he gave is only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:16-17). “For when were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him” (Romans 5:6-9). Jesus came to die for the common and universal problem of mankind – sin. Money, good health, good marriage, good job and personal comfort are not the universal problems of man because; it is not every man that has problems in those areas.

But sin was the problem of man which brought about spiritual death (separation). Jesus became the price for the sins of all humanity; He paid for sin via His dead on the cross. Here we see the love of God for the sinner displayed; He never proved His love for us by His great speeches or promises, rather, He proved it by what He did.(by becoming the sacrifice for sin) “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13) The work of redeeming man began on the cross; that was when Jesus was “given”; there He was made sin for us, and the result is that today, we have been made the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). 1 Peter 2:24 says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree….” To bear means to take responsibility for actions of other people. “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. He would live to be High Priest. This he would do after being raised from the dead by shedding of blood” (Hebrews 7:24). Shedding of blood is not outpouring of blood; not the blood that poured on the cross. Remember the sprinkling of blood on the mercy seat in the Old Testament (Leviticus 16:15-17). The High Priest did this only on the Day of Atonement. Jesus must do this as our High priest and the book of Hebrews relates with this; showing us Christ from the ceremonies of the law (Hebrews 9:11-12, 22-24; 10:19).The shedding of Jesus’ blood happened in heaven; to make a way for us in God’s presence. But the shedding shouldn’t be imagined to be in a bowl of blood. Jesus’ blood speaks of His human life; under the law, the blood of animals sat on the mercy seat, but in heaven, Jesus Himself sat. So the sprinkling of the blood is Jesus sitting right there and it connotes the eternal nature of our salvation.

INSTRUCTION: You are eternally secured in Christ. Think about it.

PRAYER:  I affirm that I am eternally saved as I am found in Christ – Glory.

QUOTE: Shedding of blood is not outpouring of blood.
