“Then spake Jesus again unto them saying, I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
LIGHT FOR NOW: We have been taken out of the realm of darkness.
The above text of the scripture was actually a promissory note, as no one received light until Jesus died, was buried and resurrected according to the scripture. By revelation John said, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4). So, the light being spoken of here is the Christ life; having this life is called sonship “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the spirit of his son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6).Our theme text is perhaps one of the greatest statements that ever came out of Jesus’ mouth; he said, “I am the light of the world; he that followed me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Jesus dared to say that he represented a new order, a new type of man, that in Him was the light; that is, the wisdom that comes from Eternal life. It means the people, who follow Him, walk in His footsteps and do His word, should never be caught in the realm of darkness where they cannot see. We have been taken out of the realm of darkness where men walk by the senses; we have been translated into the kingdom of the son of His love, or in other words, into the very family of God. The sufferings of Christ is the platform of (for) all gifts available in Him, we thus lay claim to this life because His death is ours. We have the son, we have His life and John affirms this thus; “And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his son. He that hath the son hath life; and he that hath not the son of God hath not life” (I John 5:11-12). We are now masters over darkness hence, there’s no room for confusion in us. We must acknowledge that we are in a vital union with the Father – a union that has absolute life. Romans 6:11 says, “Likewise reckon ye also yourself to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
To reckon means to take cognizance of; we must acknowledge that we are alive in Christ. We must recognize that we are different, called to be a blessing to others; to be a lifter of others. We can count on the relationship and fellowship we have with the Father to be able to do this. We are now light in Him; we function with supernatural endowment – His life, His light. If you have caught a glimpse of the revelation of the new creation in the apostolic writings, you will realize that we have actually taken Jesus’ place on earth. This is because we now have the same nature with our Father. And with this nature comes all the attributes that made Jesus so beautiful to the world; and made Him stand out as the most unusual character the ages have ever seen. Every attribute that made Christ beautiful is in us now. We have the same life that dominated Him – that love nature.
