“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” – Mark 16:15-18
LIGHT FOR NOW: The man is only born again by the gospel that is preached to him.
From our investigations in the book of Galatians, we have come to see that the same emphasis in 1st and 2nd Corinthians as touching the gospel which was on “preaching” and “focused on Christ” is the same thing Paul alludes to in the book of Galatians. From our study in Galatians, we saw that the gospel was present in the Old Testament, and also the gospel could be believed in the Old Testament. In the book of Ephesians, what did Paul have to say about the gospel emphatically? In Ephesians 1:13, Paul echoes “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise”. He says “the gospel of your salvation”. In Ephesians 3:6, he says “That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel”.
In verses 15 and 19 of Ephesians 6, Paul echoes this “And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace… And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel”. Similar to his letters, consistent in the Pauline epistles in describing the gospel was the use of the words “preach/say” and “Christ”. Apostle Peter also used the phrase “the gospel” in his epistles; he used it in 1Peter 1:23 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. Verse 25, But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached to you”. Again, we have the word “gospel” here and the word “preached”. Apostle Peter was clear; a man is born again by the gospel that is preached to him, which he believes in. Hallelujah!
