“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God” 1 Corinthians 1:16-17.
LIGHT FOR NOW: The gospel is about Christ and nothing more.
The gospel is a message that is preached about Christ. It is not about acts of charity neither is it about organizing comedy concerts in churches. Any church that focuses on comedy concerts is a clear indication that such a group of people has lost their joy of salvation. When the gospel is preached, life must be given to men. Eternal life is found only in the gospel. The gospel is about Christ and nothing more. Therefore, the focus of the message of every preacher must be Christ. The Bible is not a book used to teach business or marriage principles. The Bible is Jesus’ book. Jesus is the focus of the entire Bible. The gospel of Christ is concerning the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. These are the facts of the gospel. They remain the message of the gospel. Hear Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 from verse 1-4, he says, ‘’moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless you have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures’’. Here, Apostle Paul was so emphatic about the resurrection of Christ which is the root of the gospel.
In 2 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 12, Apostle Paul says, ‘’Furthermore, when I came unto Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord’’. The door opened by the gospel of Christ was to have more access to win more souls for Christ. You cannot hear the gospel of Christ, and the love of God does not flow through you. In summary, Paul emphasizes that the gospel of Christ is a message that is preached about Christ alone. This means that the gospel is specific about the person of Christ and not on things.
INSTRUCTION: Live in the goodness of God.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your goodness in my life; thank you for the life I have in you in which I am saved to the uttermost, in Jesus Name, Amen.
