JESUS, THE SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD (4)

“For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the saviour of all men, specifically of those that believe” 1Timothy 4:10

LIGHT FOR NOW: It is faith in the saviour that saves the unsaved.

We began looking into a corroborative analysis of the word specially (malista) in the above text, and in our investigation we got to Titus 4:13 where Paul says “The cloke that I left at Troas with carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments”. That “especially the parchments” can be rephrased as “specifically the parchments” that is; he was actually referring to specific parchments. In the previous chapters of the same book (Titus), Paul says in chapter 1 verse 10 “for there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision”. Specifically, they of the circumcision, that is, he was referring to them of the circumcision as unruly, vain talkers and deceivers. Paul in Philemon 1:6 says “Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord”. The word specially used by Paul here in Philemon 1:16 was referring specifically to him; that is, what Paul said in context was “I am referring to myself”. So the word “malista”, that is, “specially” as used by Paul (the same author of the text in question – 1Timothy 4:10) in all the different scenarios that he used it was referring to something in particular. He was referring to something specific.

Apostle Peter in his second epistle equally uses the word “malista”, it reads “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities” (2Peter 2:9-10). The word “chiefly” here (2Peter 2:9-10) was translated from the same word in the Greek lexicon “malista”. In context, Paul was speaking specifically of those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise government. Therefore, based on the corroborative analysis carried out is unbundling the word specially (“malista”), it can now be deduced as we bring this back to our key text (1Timothy 4:10) that when Paul said Jesus is the saviour of all men, specially of those that believe, he was referring to those who believe specifically and not the whole of humanity. So that text is not a text that says salvation is automatic, it actually shows you that salvation which is available for all men is only effective in those that have believed. You are not saved because Jesus died, was buried and he rose, you are saved because you have believed in that death, burial and resurrection. This emphasizes the need for the gospel being preached in order for men to believe and be saved. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION:Salvation is not automatic. Think, then don’t joke with the ministry of the gospel.

PRAYER: Thank you father for saving me by faith in what you did in your son; I declare that I make manifest the saviour of your knowledge in every place, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and what is accrued to it is only effective in the believing ones.
