“For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the saviour of all men, specifically of those that believe” 1Timothy 4:10

LIGHT FOR NOW:  The living God is the savior of the world.

We came to deduce summatively in our analysis of 1John 2:2 that this text was to show that Jesus is the satisfaction for sin for the whole world. We’ve said that this doesn’t mean or refer to the fact that all men are saved as a man has to receive that which has been done by Jesus. The work of Jesus is such that it was done for the world, yet a man has to receive by believing what he did. Hence, we said salvation is not automatic upon all even though it has been made available for all. Still in the line of thoughts, we aim to go more detailed to the fact that salvation is not automatic upon all as we explore the above text. In the world today, we have many who universalize salvation. That is, everyone has been saved because of what Jesus did. The big question is always “why go ye into all the world and preach the gospel” if everyone has been saved already. Back to our above text (1Timothy 4:10). Notice, Paul says the living god (who is Jesus) is he savior of all men. It’s possible to use this statement to support the notion or ideology that all men are saved, that is, if he is the savior of all men, then all men are saved. But that submission is wrong and we will see it soon. Notice, after Paul says “the savior of all men”, he then says “specially of those that believe”. What is Paul saying?

The living God is the savior and by mentioning savior, what should come into our minds is salvation because the reason for the savior is salvation. Salvation is only available in the savior. The savior does the work of saving; that living God who is the savior of all men is Jesus. That’s why in chapter 1 of John’s synoptic, Jesus (who is called the word) is God. So, Jesus who is God is the saviour. Jesus is the living God; the living God is the saviour of all men. There must of a necessity be a saviour if there must be salvation because salvation is in the saviour. The mission statement of Jesus in Matthew 1:21 says “…she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save…” He shall save. So, the saviour is Jesus; He is the saviour of the world, but does that mean the whole world is saved? We will see shortly. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Follow the study.

PRAYER: I declare that my mindhavethe capacity to comprehend revelation knowledge, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: The salvation Jesus offers is for all even though all have not accepted the salvation he has offered.
