“And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise; God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.” Hebrews 11: 39-40
LIGHT FOR NOW: At redemption your identity was changed and made superior.
As a new creature you carry an identity that is superior to that of an ordinary man. The sperm that produced you is not that of a human as the Bible says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of the incorruptible, by the word of God which liveth and abided forever. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (1Peter1:23 and John1:13).This is a clear indication that it is the Word of God that produced you, and not human sperm. Therefore, it is explicit that this identity or Divine Nature is completely deficient in the prophets of old, beginning from the Old Testament heroes of faith to John the Baptist.Noneof them can be compared to a new creature in Christ Jesus – because they are not born again. Looking at our text above, Jesus categorically stated that no man that came through the womb of a woman (that is from Cain to John the Baptist) is greater than John. Why? This is because, after the fall of the first Adam, God began a plan of redemption to buy back man from the hand of Satan. So, everything that happened in the Old Testament times was pointing at Christ (our redeemer). The brazen serpent rose by Moses in the wilderness (John 3:14; Numbers 21:9) was a typology of the Saviour, Jesus Christ- upon whom everyone looked and received life! The laws of Moses and the prophets were all talking about Christ but in shadows and types. Isaiah almost called Jesus by name (Isaiah 7:14) where he identified Him as ‘Immanuel’; but could not addressHim ‘Jesus’ because he prophesied in types and shadows.
All the prophets desired to see Christ but could not.Johnthe Baptist is greater than all of them becausehe saw the Messiah. Though Johnthe Baptist saw Jesus, Christ did not live in him. He had died before the Lord was glorified! We believers are the embodiments of Jesus. Christ Jesus dwells in each believer. This is why Jesus said that John the Baptist is greater than anybody that was before him, but that the least in the kingdom is greater than John the Baptist. Friends, you have to believe in your status that you are greater than all the saints in the Old Testament for without you, they are not perfect (Hebrews 11:42). You are better than the prophets of old.
INSTRUCTION: Take your place in redemption
PRAYER: Lord, I believe in whom you have made me to be, in Jesus name.
QUOTE: Until you know your identity, you cannot be identified in the crowd.
