“I thank my God, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints; that the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” – Philemon 1:4-6
LIGHT FOR NOW: The discernment of the believer changed at salvation.
It’s clearly seen from the explanation of Philippians 1:9-11, that, knowledge is a major ingredient where the love walk of the believer is concerned. Knowledge is key to the believer’s love walk. And don’t forget that how a believer conducts himself is a function of what he knows. We saw the instance of the Corinthian church which Paul called carnal because of their conduct (1Corinthians 3:1-3). So what a man feeds his mind on will eventually determine his conduct. Paul tells us in Romans 12:2 not to be conformed to this world. Hear this in Ephesians 4:22-24, “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness”. At salvation, the believer’s discernment has changed same as the source of influence. So, the walk is from the mind; the thinking pattern. God’s word is a re-education of the believer’s set of ideals. Hence, the reason for Paul’s prayer in Philippians 1:9-11, “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God”. What is the only antidote to offences? The love walk is the only antidote to offences. Walking in love therefore, is a choice we must make. The knowledge of God’s word is what strengthens this choice. The knowledge of God’s word reveals to us the reality of who we are in Christ, and consequently enables us to naturally walk in our nature (that is, walk in love which is the same thing as walking in honour and walking in the spirit). So, not walking in love is living contrary to our nature. Taking offences instead of initiating the love walk is acting who you are not. Love is your nature; it’s your identity, so walk in it. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: Instead of taking offences, initiate the love walk.
PRAYER: I conduct myself in the realities of who I am in Christ, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: Walking in love is the only antidote to offences.
