Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. – Romans 12:9-13

LIGHT FOR NOW: Walking in honor and in love is our nature.

In the course of this study on the subject of honor, we’ve come to see how critical and vital honor is in the life of believers. Honor is a vital Christian virtue that must be evident in all of our dealings with fellow believers, church leadership and membership. This must also permeate our lifestyle every day or in our everyday living. That explains why the Apostles also admonished believers to honor those in position of authority, our bosses at work and our natural parents. In essence, we have been called to a life of honor. Thus, whether in our local church or in our offices, schools, etc., our thoughts, words, and actions must reflect our nature; it must reflect our culture, and this nature which is our culture is honor. That’s why we are not of this world, John echoed this, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world”. No wonder Paul echoed in Romans 12:2 that we should not be conformed to this world; but rather, we should be transformed by the renewing of our mind. In Christ, we have a new creature, Paul lays credence to this in 2 Corinthians 5:16-17, “Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new”. We are to walk in our nature and that nature is love. Walking in love is equivalent to walking in the spirit which is synonymous as walking in the light and concurrently walking in honor.

In other words, we walk in our nature- in love, in the spirit, in the light, in honor. Hence, Paul echoed in Galatians 5:16 & 25 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit”. And in context of Galatians 5, Paul’s explanation of walking in the spirit is walking in love. So we walk in love, we don’t give room to anger, hatred, bitterness, malice, strife, etc., because we are men of the spirit. In chapter 5 verse 8 of Ephesians, Paul says “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light”. Therefore, I walk as a child of light. Hallelujah!
