“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” – Isaiah 53:3-7
LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s plan of redemption was the real thought and not an afterthought.
In our studies previously, we established that it is not just enough to sing “Jesus came and did it all for me”. It is needful to know what He did actually because there is a possibility of not knowing what He did even after singing “Jesus came and did it all for me”. So, what did He do? Now, whatever Jesus did will be the plan of God and this plan of God will be mapped out before time and manifested in time. Or what He did in time will have been pre-planned by God before time and thus, in this pre-plan, man’s excesses/sin would have been accommodated ahead of time. Thus, this will present a picture of a God that does not react, but pro-acts. Meaning, man’s sin could not have caught God unawares and thus, redemption cannot be seen as a plan B that is why He is omniscience; if He is omniscience and He is not aware ahead of time, that man would disobey Him, then He is not omniscience. For Him to be omniscience will mean He knew ahead of time what choice man will make even after giving man His word, and as a God who knows ahead of that, He must have planned man’s salvation in a man (the man Christ Jesus) ahead of time. But note that He is omniscience or sovereign does not mean He is responsible for the choice man will make. He only knew the choice man would make but He would not be responsible for the choice man would make because as we will see in the course of this study, man was given the autonomy of his will. So, God will not be responsible for what happened to man, man will be responsible for what happened to him because what happened to him will be an offspring of his choice to reject God’s word. Moreover, God will not interfere with his choice because the will of man is an institution that God Himself respects. God will not usurp a man’s will; so, it will be out of place with this analysis done so far to say that it is what God wants that happens. It is not what God wants that happens, it is what man allows that happens; so, thinking that the sovereignty of God means it is what God wants that happens or God is responsible for all that happens will be erroneous. God is sovereign yet He respects man’s choice. God will not force His plan on man because He is sovereign. To do that will be tyranny and God is not a tyrant; and if He were a tyrant, then Adam shouldn’t have had the choice to make between two trees, He should have told Adam, “Adam, come on and eat of the tree of life”. In the course of this study, this little information received in today’s study will open up. Hallelujah!
