“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” Matthew 24:14.
LIGHT FOR NOW: The state and manner in which Jesus died will reveal where He went to.
Recently in this studies, we began an investigation into where Jesus went to after He died. And we said that the state and manner in which Jesus died will determine the destination He went to. Still on that line of thoughts, let’s hear from Paul’s lips further in Galatians 3:13; it reads, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree”. So, one of the states in which He died was that He was cursed (He was an accursed object). He must never be in God’s presence this way. Under the law, this accursed thing is removed from the land (Deuteronomy 21:23). In this state, Jesus must go to where spiritually dead people go; He must suffer their pains. On earth, this is to happen for three days and nights. Outside the earth, we must never forget the son does not dwell there, it would not be three days and nights; it would be timeless. Luke’s account on the cross has left some wondering if Jesus went into a glorious bliss after his physical death. If He did, then we would have some “divine” tricks played on our souls. Let us listen to Luke, “And Jesus said unto him, verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 24:43). Jesus here was talking to the believing criminal who believed that Christ died sinless (that is, Christ died without sin). This believing criminal had to be saved; he called Him Lord. Not knowing that the original language of the New Testament (Greek) had no commas, many have conferred divine inspiration on the placement of the commas by the translators; commas came centuries later. Jesus never went to paradise that day, his kingdom came only when He rose from the dead. In fact, having seen the state in which Jesus died in our preliminary explanations, then it will be out of place to say that Jesus went to paradise after He died. Let’s hear the Matthew and Luke’s synoptic again; they read, “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matthew 12:40). “And said unto them, thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day” (Luke 24:46). So having seen the state and manner in which Jesus died, He would not have gone to have a nice time in paradise. So, where did He go to? The next studies will answer this. Hallelujah!
