“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” – Matthew 24:14
LIGHT FOR NOW: The gospel is the good news of Christ.
In our previous study, we saw that the word gospel being translated implies good news or glad tidings. We also saw that Jesus preached or taught this good news (Matthew 4:23; 9:35). Jesus commanded His disciples which by implication includes the church to preach the same (Mark 16:15). Peter and John did (Acts 8:25). Paul and Barnabas did (Acts 14:6-7,21). That said, Paul was also committed to it; “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16). Notice what Paul calls it here in Romans 1:16; Paul calls it the good news of Christ. In other words, the good news that Jesus, His disciples (the church), Peter and John, Paul and Barnabas preached was the good news of Christ. So, Paul in Romans 1:16 calls it the good news of Christ. This is the same good news God preached to Abraham as Paul lets us see in Galatians 3:8 which reads, “And the scripture forseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham saying, in thee shall all nations be blessed”.
Why is the message called good news? Is it about an increase in salary, or about gifts of houses, cars or property? Is it about physical and temporal happiness and comfort? For the news to be good, it has to be relevant to the hearers’ condition. Since this news is for all creatures, it must have a singular application and relevance to humanity. Is it everyone that is in need of salary increment, in need of gifts of cars, houses and property? The answer is No. In other words, not everyone is poor and in need of a financial raise. Not everyone has need for physical therapy for sickness. Not all have common physical conditions requiring the same news. For this news to be for all, then it must affect what is an ‘all’ condition. This will be seen in our subsequent studies in subsequent days.
INSTRUCTION: know what the good news is so you won’t be tossed round by every wind of doctrine.
PRAYER: I declare that my understanding of the gospel of Christ increases like never before, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: The good news of Christ is for all because it affects an ‘all’ condition.
