“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” – Matthew 24:14
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is our message.
In our previous studies, we saw that frightening people with hell so that they come to Christ births fear for hell or in other words you make people to come to Christ out of fear for hell and not out of faith in Christ. If people are to come to Christ, they are not to come out of fear of hell; they are to come to Christ for Christ and Christ alone. Look at Jesus’ words in Mark 16:15 which reads “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”. Notice that Jesus did not say to go into the world and frighten people with hell. He simply said ‘preach the gospel’. If you are frightening people to come to Jesus with hell, then you are not preaching the gospel. What then is the gospel that is to be preached? It is the gospel of Christ; the message or the good news of the redemptive work of Christ for therein or within this message is where faith in Christ can be birthed or supplied. Paul’s words in Romans 10 lay for elucidation; it reads ‘for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:13-17).
Notice verse 17 says faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. So, it is the hearing of the word of God that supplies faith. And what is the word of God? The word of God in context to Romans 10:17 is the message of Christ. That is in the original Greek manuscript where this verse is translated from; it is rendered as, ‘so then faith by hearing and hearing the message of Christ’. In other words, the message of Christ is the word of God and it is the hearing of the message of Christ that supplies faith to the hearer and once this happens a man is born again. Thus, the message of Christ is the message of faith. The message of Christ does not birth fear but births faith. Therefore, one must deliberately teach or preach Christ through the scriptures because He is our message. Hallelujah!!!
