“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God which liveth and abideth forever” 1Peter 1:23
LIGHT FOR THE NOW: Born again means regeneration.
In our studies on this subject, we can allude to the fact that in regeneration, a man is born of the spirit and this is solely by the work of the spirit. Thus, the individual who is born of the spirit has his sonship and nature forever. The life and nature such individual possesses at the point of new birth is forever and is of the father. Now, if regeneration means to be born of the spirit; that is, it speaks of new birth, then regeneration is the same thing as being born again.
In other words, born again means regeneration and vice versa. Recall, the word “regeneration” from its Greek word implies to start again; to begin; a new beginning; a birth or the new birth. This is the same thing as being born again because born again refers to the new birth which denotes a new beginning; to be born anew or to be born from above. That is, this birth is not just any kind of birth. Hence, Peter’s words in our opening text, “Being born again, not of the corruptible seed, but of the incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever”.
Observe how other translations render the above text: “your new life is not like your old life. Your old birth came from mortal sperm; your new birth comes from God’s living word. Just think: a life conceived by God himself” (1Peter 1:23 “THE MESSAGE”). “For you have been born again. Your new life did not come from your earthly parents because the life they gave you will end in death. But this new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal living word of God” (1Peter 1:23 “NLT”). “You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm) but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting word of God” (1Peter 1:23 AMP).
Observe how the above three translations elucidates our opening text. Thus, the new birth is not of mortal origin (it is not of corruptible seed), but of immortal origin (that is of incorruptible seed) which is by the ever living and lasting word of God. Observe closely that the Amplified version clearly refers to the term born again as regeneration. This is because it is at the point a man gets born again (by faith in the gospel) that the Holy Spirit indwells and this indwelling of the spirit in the life of a man makes that man regenerated. The believer is regenerated; he has the life of God; he has the nature of God; he has God’s heredity; God’s DNA is at work in him and thus this man is a living reflection of God here on earth. Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: Your life is beyond man’s life. God’s life is the life at work in you. You have to acknowledge this reality.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your word wherein I am regenerated by faith in the same. I am indwelt by your spirit and therefore, I have your life at work in me, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: The born again man is born of God and thus has the life of God which cannot be lost because it is eternal.
