FAITH IN CHRIST (PART FIVE)

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” – Romans 10:9-10

LIGHT FOR NOW: Faith in Christ is salvation.

In all our studies these past days on this subject, we have closely seen that Jesus is the message of the Bible. Moreover, we have also seen that the utterances of the prophets were about what Jesus was going to do which was to make salvation available for all man which was done in the death, burial and resurrection. Now, if salvation was what Jesus was going to do, it will thus imply that man will not do anything to add to what Jesus came to do. Man is not going to contribute to salvation or man is not going to support Jesus to save. Meaning there is no input of man where salvation is concerned. There is nothing that any man can do which will make him merit or deserve salvation and there is nothing man can do (the believer at this point) that will make him lose salvation which was not what he obtained. Salvation is what Jesus obtained, not what man obtained, neither will it be what will attain. It is Jesus’ work made available for everyone to be received. How then is salvation received? Paul in our opening text gives us a lead; he states out two important facts: Believe in your heart and confess with your heart.

Believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord is salvation. At the point of salvation, there is nothing that a man is required to confess other than Christ Jesus. You are not going to confess anything else to be saved outside of the person of Christ. This same fact is echoed in Acts 4:12 which reads, “Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved”. So, it is in confessing Christ that a man will be saved. Jesus is the saviour. Salvation is found in the saviour who is Jesus. Jesus the saviour makes salvation available to all men and this salvation is only received by faith in Christ who is the saviour because He is the one who saves. One is saved because he has believed in the person of Jesus. Paul in the book of Ephesians puts further elucidation to this fact, “for by grace are ye saved through faith; and not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2: 8-9). So salvation is made available by grace and received by faith in Christ (who is the grace of God towards mankind). Therefore, faith in Christ equals salvation.

INSTRUCTION: Acknowledge the fact that you were saved the day you believed.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the gift of your Son Jesus Christ in whom I am saved completely, eternally and for all times, in Jesus Name. Amen.

QUOTE: faith in Christ is faith in the Saviour who saves to the uttermost.
