IDENTITY CRISIS AND THE BELIEVER (4)

“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” – Philemon 1:6

LIGHT FOR NOW: You don’t outgrow study.

It is a clear fact established during the course of this study in previous days that the bible is Christ-centered. Hence, we can say that the study of the bible is the study of Christ. And moreover, the study of the believer will be the study of Christ. We can boldly say that theology is Christology or theology will find its root in Christology. In essence, all concepts in the bible or concepts in theology itself must be subjected to Christology because Christology is theology. Furthermore, we have discovered that the believer’s identity is unveiled or revealed in Christ in the written word, and this cures identity crisis.

Let us better say that God’s cure for identity crisis is the written word. Thus, not knowing the written word is to the believer a big disadvantage. Clearly, our study of the word unveils the person of Jesus and in unveiling the person of Jesus; the believer is unveiled in Him. Thus, in Jesus we have the identity of the believer revealed. We can therefore say that identity crisis is a symptom of lack of God’s word. The believer therefore ought to study God’s word. No wonder Paul in his letter to a protégé of his by the name Timothy will speak on the essence of studying; he admonishes Timothy by saying “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth” (2Timothy 2:15).

Paul in this text puts a spotlight on why and how study is very essential as far as the believer is concerned. The word “study” in this text implies to be diligent, be eager or make effort. This word “study” thus speaks of hard work. So, every believer in Christ ought not to neglect the studying of God’s word.
It is in learning from God’s word (presenting yourself to be taught or making yourself available consciously to be taught) and consequently studying intensively from what you’ve been taught that you can walk in the fullness of your realities in Christ. Therefore, it is clear that God’s cure for identity crisis is His word and thus the teaching of God’s word which unveils the believer as it reveals Jesus will be the cure of identity crisis. So, can we say identity crisis for the believer has a solution? Yes; then what is the solution? The knowledge of God’s word. Therefore, the believer in Christ needs the revelation of Christ in the written word if he must walk in the fullness of his identity in Christ in which this is the cure for identity crisis.

INSTRUCTION: Knowing God’s word as a believer is not an option, it is a must; you must know God’s word.

PRAYER: The habit of studying grows in me like never before. I ponder on God’s word, I meditate on it and I act upon it. All of my realities encapsulated in the written word which is unveiled in the person of Jesus will be maximized in me, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: The revelation of God’s word is necessary to the unveiling of the believer’s identity.
