“Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourself unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instrument of righteousness unto God. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield ourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death or of obedience unto righteousness? I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so, now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness” – Romans 6:13, 16 and 19.
LIGHT FOR NOW: Righteousness consciousness should be the believer’s consciousness.
From our previous study, we saw that when Paul said “yield your members as instrument of righteousness and holiness”, Paul in essence was admonishing the believer to account, confess, reckon or acknowledge their realities (that is, they are righteous; it is their reality and quality in Christ hence the use of the word “yield”). In essence, we can safely term Paul’s words as righteousness consciousness. That is, the opening text speaks of the believer being conscious of his reality (righteousness in this context) in Christ. Thus, righteousness consciousness is the implication of the statement “yield your members as instrument of righteousness and holiness”.
It is not the yielding that makes the believer righteous, the believer is already righteous (that is, his nature and quality); hence, the yielding (the acknowledging, the reckoning or the accounting of this fact). Therefore, sin consciousness should not be the believer’s consciousness; rather, righteousness consciousness should be the believer’s consciousness. Sin is not the reality of the believer, righteousness is the reality of the believer; hence, he should be conscious of his realities and ignore what is not his realities. In fact, sin consciousness is what is responsible for sin bondage in the church world today.
We are not to acknowledge sin; we are to acknowledge righteousness which is who we are in Christ. Thus, the cure for sin consciousness obviously will be righteousness consciousness. You cannot give expression to your realities if you are not conscious of your realities. Paul in his letter to Philemon in Philemon 1:6 “That the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus”. The believer is to be fixated on his realities in Christ; he is to fix his gaze on Christ; hence not doing so will amount to him not giving expression to his realities. You are righteous; you are holy; that is who you are.
Acknowledge these realities; let these realities become your consciousness and then sin consciousness and its bondage will be rendered redundant in your life. Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: Let your realities fill your mind till nothing else matter.
PRAYER: Father, I declare that I am conscious of my stand, my status and state in you. I am who you say I am, I am what your word says I am and therefore, I declare that righteousness consciousness becomes my consciousness eternally, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: Giving expression to who you are in Christ will be tied to the precise acknowledging of who you are in Christ.
