“Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more, but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my father, and ye in me, and I in you” – John 14:19-20
LIGHT FOR NOW: You are one with Christ.
It is important to note that the believer is one who has been united with Christ. Jesus used the word, ‘in’ three times and an understanding of that word is critical if one must understand what union with Christ implies. That word, ‘in’ was translated from the Greek word ‘en’ which refers to a union; an inseparable union with. Hence, Jesus taught the indwelling of the spirit as the union of the believer and himself (John 14:16-17). Jesus made a statement, “That all may be one; as thou, father, art in me, and I in thee that they also may be one with us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory that thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one” (John 17:21-22). This is very instructive. Jesus explained the New Birth as the indwelling of the Spirit, and as an inseparable union with the father. “Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me, he will keep my words, and my father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him (John 14:23). Therefore, what he said in verse 3…. “Where I am there you will be also…” will refer to the believer in an inseparable union with Christ. This is the abode or house of the father.
In other words, the believer in Christ is in the dwelling place of the father! So the phrase “I go to my father” in John 14 refers to his resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the father, and it is in that resurrection that we are in union with him. He has come again to us by the indwelling of the spirit. Thus, life (the Spirit) came to us in the resurrection! (John 14:17, John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:13). Paul also taught the believers identification in Christ’s resurrection; he explained this in Ephesians 1:20-23: “Which he wrote in Christ when he rose from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but in that which is to come: and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all”. This is what Jesus was teaching in John chapter 14 that our union with Christ is inseparable.
INSTRUCTION: Your union with Christ is inseparable. Ponder on this.
PRAYER: Father thank you for my union with you. I am in you and you are in me and nothing can separate us, in Jesus Name. Amen.
