“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” – Romans 1:14
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is the substance of the Gospel.
All of God’s revelation has already been communicated in a written form which is the Bible. To know God which equals knowing Jesus is to know the written word. You cannot know God or know Jesus until you know the written word. One cannot also preach the message of the person of Christ without the knowledge of the written word. The Bible is Jesus’ book. It focuses on the person of Jesus. Jesus Himself testifies of this truth in John chapter 5 verse 39 when He said, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me”. Luke chapter 24 verses 26 and 27 also buttresses this truth. They read, “Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”. Jesus is therefore the message of the scriptures. This is why the gospel is the gospel of Christ and not the gospel of material things. Any message preached without Christ being the central figure cannot be the gospel. Jesus is the substance of the gospel.
The word, “gospel” is translated from the Greek word, “evangelion” meaning good news or good message. It is important to note that the synoptic gospel only has the human account of the earthly life of Jesus. They are observations and a eye-witness or a journalistic account of the earthly life of Jesus. To evangelize from the verb, “evangelizo” is to announce the good news. This shows that the gospel must be announced. Real blessing is in the preaching or announcing of the Gospel of Christ. Roman chapter 15 verse 29 says, “And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ”. When Christ is preached, blessings are released.
INSTRUCTION: Announce the gospel of Christ.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for making me a partaker of the glorious gospel of Christ, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: Any message preached outside Christ is not the gospel but a gossip.
