“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God” – 1 Corinthians 6:11
LIGHT FOR NOW: The moment a man believes the Gospel of Christ, there is an automatic cleansing and washing.
The word, “washed” in our text for today is gotten from the Greek word, “apolouo”. By the finished work of Christ is the believer washed and cleansed. Apostle Paul qualified the work of Christ as complete. No amount of money can buy salvation. Man can gain the world but man cannot save his own soul. The moment a man believes the gospel of Christ, there is an automatic cleansing and washing. To call on the name of Jesus is to believe in his finished work. It is to affirm what Christ has done and is doing on our behalf. To be washed is to be declared not guilty. There is no record of sin for the believer in Christ. The one-time death of Christ on the cross took care of past, present and future sins. To be sanctified is to be made holy, to be treated specially and differently. The word, “sanctified” is gotten from the Greek word, “hagiazo”. It is used to show why or how a person is holy. It appears about 28 times in the Bible.
The gospel sanctifies a man. Sanctification is not the work of a man but that of the Spirit operating via the gospel. When you receive the gospel, you are sanctified. Hebrews chapter 10 verse 10 says, “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all”. Also, Romans chapter 15 verse 16 says, “That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost”. A believer is sanctified in the name of Jesus Christ by the Spirit of the Lord. A believer is not about to be sanctified. He has already been sanctified.
INSTRUCTION: Believe the Gospel.
PRAYER: I am washed and sanctified by the Name of Jesus via the Gospel, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: The believer in Christ is not looking for sanctification. He is already sanctified.
