“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the first born among many brethren” –Romans 8:29
LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s intention is for man to be saved.
The word, ‘proorizo’ which is translated ‘predestinate’ is a verb. It expresses an intention. This word appears in a desire or an intention. It is usually expressed in a desire which is in perfect tense. Consider 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 7. It reads, “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory”. In the context of this scripture, the word, ‘unto’ translated from the Greek word, ‘eis’ is used for the infinite verb ‘ordained’ translated from the Greek word, ‘pro-orizo-eisto-doxa-he’ used to mark out an area, time or intention. It was used to show an intended result and not a final outcome. It expresses an intention but not a final result. God’s intention is for man to be saved. Salvation is the love of God dispensed to man. But man still needs to accept the salvation being offered. In the divine will of God, human will is also important.
It is wrong to assume that the word, ‘predestination’ is for a selective people. From our text for today, we can see that God’s intention for everybody to be saved does not mean that everybody has been saved automatically. Not everyone has conformed to the image of Christ. It is the acceptance and belief in Christ that conforms a man to the image of Christ. Therefore, it is a personal responsibility to be conformed.
INSTRUCTION: Accept God’s gift of salvation today.
PRAYER: Lord, I align my will with the divine will of God for my life, In Jesus Name. Amen.
