“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation” – 2 Corinthians 5:18-19
LIGHT FOR NOW: The Gospel is the message of reconciliation.
Every born again child of God is under a command to preach the gospel. There is nothing as beautiful, wonderful and powerful as the gospel of forgiveness of sins. The gospel is the message of reconciliation. God is no longer counting sins against a man in Christ. To reconcile the world to God is to announce the forgiveness of sins; it is to announce the love of God to the lost world; not judging or condemning but showing the God kind of love. The Gospel is a message of no condemnation. God’s character towards a sinner is mercy and favour. God is not angry with a sinner but he is ever merciful and kind. This merciful and loving character was seen in the giving of Christ to die in our stead even when we were helpless and hopeless. Romans chapter 5 verse 8 reads, “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. Also, Romans chapter 8 verse 32 buttresses this truth. It reads, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” God’s mercy and kindness is freely given. He is a loving and merciful God.
The death of Christ is the down payment for sins. Forgiveness of sins is made available in Christ. Colossians chapter 1 verses 13 and 14 reads, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”. The sinner is not to confess sin because sin has been taken care of. God already put the sins of the world on Jesus. The sinner is to confess Jesus in place of sin. Romans chapter 10 verses 9-10 read, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”. This is what the Gospel brings – the forgiveness of sins and the gift of salvation.
