And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.’ – Hebrews 13:16 [NIV]
LIGHT FOR NOW: God is well-pleased in giving.
Apollos in his letter instructed the brothers in Hebrews church to do good to others. This refers to giving. Through their acts of giving, other believers needs were met. The same applies to the present-day church. Fellow believers should be sensitive to respond to the needs of others. Don’t close your doors against the brethren and neighbors whose needs you can meet. It was through this avenue that Abraham entertained angels. You can never tell the impact of your good deeds when you consistently do good to others!
Voluntary giving in the church is so loud in the Epistles and this shows that it is of great importance that you engage in giving. God is well pleased in giving. He takes delight in your gifts to others! Believers in the early church gave out of their industriousness or out of their inheritance. Some worked and became financially and materially blessed, and some inherited their resources by inheritance! In both perspectives, hard-work, determination, effective and strategic planning are critically involved.Acts 2:44-46 [NIV] says ‘And all the believers were together, and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.’ They sold their possessions to meet the needs of others. Again, a report of believers good deeds is recorded in Acts 4:32-35 [NIV], which reads ‘All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. The proceeds were brought to the authority of the church for equitable distribution to the needy. In all this, God is the best model for giving (John 3:16). Nobody cannot out-give God! Christ is the best gift from God to man!
INSTRUCTION:Imitate God. Give to the needy whenever the need arises.
Prayer:Father, I thank you for your love for man.
QUOTE:God is the first and the best giver!
