“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid” – Matthew 5:14
LIGHT FOR NOW: As a believer in Christ, you have become the light of the world.
Before Jesus Christ left this world, he said he is the light of the world (John 8:12). He also said in Matthew 5:14, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid”. This statement was futuristic of when he would have left this world in order to live inside of you. This means that Jesus expected a situation where we as His followers will step into his shoes and shine out the light and glory of Christ in us, being an example of a people created after his image and likeness. The Prophet Isaiah saw this and said in his prophecy and said, “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to thy rising” (Isaiah 60:1-3). Prophet Isaiah was referring to our days when Christ would have come to this dark world and manifest his glory to the world after which the glory will reflect on us as sons. After Christ left the earth, the believer in Christ became the light of the world.
You are now the light of the world and your light is meant to shine and be so visible like a city that is set on a hill. As a believer in Christ, you must realize that you are the image of God on the earth and your life must therefore represent your God. Remember, Jesus Christ walked on the earth doing the works of His Father. This is the same way we are to walk on the earth shinning and reflecting the glory of Christ, irrespective of the darkness in the world. This glorious light will be noticed through the higher life that you live, as well as the works you do. Your works, whether good or bad will whether you are shinning the light of Christ or not. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”. This means that, the light you shine by your works will either draw men to God or drive them away from Him. Therefore, you must choose to shine your light and draw men to God.
INSTRUCTION: You must shine out the light of Christ in you and draw men to God.
Prayer: I am the light of the world because the true light lives in me. Therefore, I will shine out the light in me everywhere I am and draw men to God, in Jesus Name! Amen!!
QUOTE: You are the glory of God.
