FORGIVENESS IN THE LIGHT OF THE NEW BIRTH (19)

“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and ye shall keep my judgments and do them… I will also save you from all uncleanness and I will call for the corn, and will increase it and lay no famine upon you” Ezekiel 36:25-27 & 29.

LIGHT FOR NOW: The life we received by faith in the gospel is called eternal life.

We saw from Jesus’ words in the explanation of Ezekiel’s prophecy that eternal life was in view in Ezekiel’s utterance. This is what was contained as a promise in Ezekiel’s words which has been fulfilled upon Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection received by faith in the same. Therefore, the reality of the man in Christ is that he has eternal life. The New Testament is replete on this fact of eternal life, let’s see: “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life… He that believeth the son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John 3:15-16; 3:36). “Verily, verily I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24). “Verily verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life” (John 6:47). “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28). “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his son” (John 5:11). Thus, eternal life is the life we received at salvation. Observe from the above overwhelming text; consistently, how is eternal life received? Eternal life is received by believing in Christ or father in Christ. (John 3:15; 5:24; 6:47).
Thus, by faith in Christ, a man has eternal life. Without any exegesis, can eternal life be lost? Eternal life cannot be lost. Just as we that the spirit is in the believer forever, eternal life which is God’s life in the believer can never be lost. Now, if you have a problem with the fact that eternal life cannot be lost, then I think you have a grammatical problem, how? You can’t say “eternal life” and then later say it can be lost then it is no more eternal, but temporal and thus, it should be called “temporal life” and not “eternal life”. However, since it is eternal life, then it cannot be lost. If eternal life can be lost, then it will mean that what God has done in Christ has been undone, nullified or cancelled; and thus, we cannot trust on the integrity of God’s work because what God has done in Christ is eternal and cannot be undone. Lastly, a text of the scripture may only appear as the loss of eternal life as a result of the inability of the reader to understand what was being communicated; thus, it is from the reader’s mind. However, where the believer is concerned, there is no text or scripture that supports the notion that a man believer can lose eternal life which is salvation. Eternal life or salvation is eternal (John 10:28; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 9:12), stop making it appear to be temporal except you want to write your own bible. Glory!!!
