WE ARE SEATED TOGETHER WITH CHRIST

“The LORD said unto my lord, sit at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool” – Psalms 110:1

LIGHT FOR NOW: Where Jesus is, that is where we are.

In our opening text, David speaks in prophetic utterance about Christ sitting at the right hand of the Father. This was a prophecy about Christ Jesus. Jesus’ words in one of the synoptic lends clearly to this: “And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, the LORD saith unto my Lord, sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool” (Luke 20:42-43). Jesus, here was quoting directly from Psalm 110 :1. Now, it is vital for us to understand what the phrase ‘right hand’ means in order for us to understand what the sitting is. Note, the phrase right hand does not mean right hand side. It is a figurative expression implying authority, regency, a place of honour. The right hand of the father is the authority of the Father, the regency of the father. So, stop imagining a throne where God is sitting down on a chair, and a chair is kept for Jesus at the right hand of the father for him to sit. Right hand is a metaphorical expression for regency. Peter in his sermon in the book of Acts made use of the same phrase: “For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved” (Acts 2:25).

From Peter’s word in Acts 2:25, it is clear that David’s utterance in Psalms 110:1 was concerning Christ. Now, having known what the right hand is, then the sitting can be easily understood. “Sit on my right hand” means take charge. That is Jesus sitting at the right hand of God means Jesus occupies the authority or regency of the father. 
Now, note that the ‘sitting’ is a present continuous sitting. That is why in Hebrew, it is rendered as ‘remain seated’. Meaning that authority is occupied by him and he will not seize to occupy that authority. Now, the good news is when we identified with Christ Jesus, we were raised up together to sit together with Christ Jesus where he is seated at the right hand of the father. Paul in Ephesians 2 alludes to this: “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”. The question is where is Christ seated? At the right hand of the Father. Then, where is the believer seated? The believer is seated together with Christ, by implication is on the right hand of the father. So, the believer in Christ occupies the authority of God. So obviously, the right hand of God will not be a literal term, but a figurative expression which speaks of a spiritual reality. That is, the believer and Christ or the believer with Christ or better still, the believer in Christ sits on the right hand of God. The believer is in the place of honour, power and authority in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!! 

INSTRUCTION: You are in authority. Act as one who knows who he is.

PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for this place of authority which I occupy in Christ. I therefore exercise my authority and maximize all my potentials in Christ Jesus, in Jesus Name.  Amen.
