KNOWING YOURSELF IN CHRIST (27)

“I thank my God, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints; that the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” – Philemon 1:4-6

LIGHT FOR NOW: A vital ingredient to the believer’s love walk is knowledge.

From Paul’s prayer to the Philippian church in Philippian 1:9-11, we’ve come to deduce that Paul’s emphasis in this prayer was on knowledge. Knowledge therefore, is very important in the believer’s love walk. A believer’s conduct is a by-product of what he knows. A believer’s conduct is inseparable from his knowledge. So, what a man knows is the fabric upon which he does what he does. Simply, we cannot separate a believer’s conduct from what he knows. What will therefore be the reason why the love walk of some believers is inefficient? The reason why the love walk of some believers are not efficient is because they do not feed on this truth. The act like the believers Paul scolded in his letter to the church at Corinth, “For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” (1Corinthians 3:3). Observe the pretext “And I brethren could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?”

In other words, whatever you feed your minds on will eventually determine your conduct. Thus, the believer ought to be sufficiently feed his or her mind on the written word. Little wonder Paul echoed in his letter to the church at Rome, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 4:17), usually a function of the influence received from the world. Those influences should not be at the forefront after a man has been saved by believing in the gospel of Christ. That system of living should not inform our actions anymore. We are men of the word; we feed on the word; we place priority on knowledge, the knowledge in the written word.

INSTRUCTION: You are born of the word; therefore, feed on the word.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your word that gave birth to me. Dear Lord I ask that you ignite the zeal in me to know your word like never before, in Jesus Name, Amen.
