“I thank my God, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints; that the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” – Philemon 1:4-6
LIGHT FOR NOW: You are born of the word, so you cannot know yourself outside the word.
We’ve established in our previous studies that God has committed all of his revelation in Christ in 66 books called the bible. The believer in Christ is thus revealed in the same (that is, in this 66 books). So, where the identity of the believer is concerned, he cannot rely on external biblical sources. He can rely on the sacred writings which are the 66 books of the bible. Don’t forget that the believer is born of the word, and thus for him to know himself it will still be by the word. Little wonder Apostle Peter echoed in 1Peter 2:2 which reads “As new born babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”. So the believer is:
• Born of the word
• He started by the word
• He continues with the word
• He grows by the word and
• He will finish with the word
So the word of God is your start to finish; if you started by the word, then it will be out of place for you to start relying on external biblical sources to continue because you did not start there. The same way Jesus is known by the word, you are also known by the word. Your true identity cannot be found outside the word, it can only be found within the word. As a believer, any attempt to know yourself outside Christ in the written word will land you in false identity. Any revelation of yourself you have outside the word is not a true revelation of yourself. Your identity in Christ is restricted only within the conduit or the boundaries of the bible. Any revelation of you outside Christ as a believer is not valid. No matter how deep the revelation may sound from an eternal biblical material, if it is not within the written word (the 66 books which God inspired), then it’s not from God. God in Christ has unveiled the man in Christ in these 66 books called the bible. There is no bigger revelation of God in Christ outside the written word. There is no bigger revelation of you in Christ outside the written word. So stay with the 66 books God gave to you.
INSTRUCTION: There is no greater revelation you will find of yourself outside the bible; Stay with the bible.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your word which birthed me; I declare that I stay with it and grow thereby, in Jesus Name. Amen.
