“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” – Matthew 24:14
LIGHT FOR NOW: The “all” condition of humanity is sin.
In our previous study, we established that since the news or the good news is for all creature, it must have a singular application and relevance to humanity. If the good news is not about salary increase then it will not be for all because not everyone is in need of a raise in salary. If the good news is not about gifts or ownership of cars, houses and properties, then it is not for all because not everyone are in need of these things as some even have more than enough. So, what is the ‘all’ condition that this message affects since this message is for all? Paul’s words in Romans 3 gives us a lead: “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them that are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God” (Romans 3:19). The whole world is guilty before God, so the law said “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). All the whole humanity is found in sin and fallen short of God’s glory. Paul lays more credence to this in chapter 5 verse 12 of Romans, it reads, “Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12).
Adam’s sin has been passed upon all men. By Moses’ law, sin is the common identity of man (not poverty, not sickness, not illiteracy, not financial bondage). Sinners are rich, healthy, literate and financially sound. But sinners are far from God. Paul says in Romans 5:8-10 “But God commended his love towards us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled by the death of his son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life”. Sinners are enemies of God. Just as Adam in the garden, sinners are cast out of God’s presence. By the pattern of Adam’s transgression as man will thus stand guilty and without right before God. Hence, the gospel (good news) is described with well-defined adjectives which we will see in our subsequent studies in subsequent days.
