THE LIGHT THAT SHINED OUT OF DARKNESS (16)

“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said let there be light and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light day and the darkness he called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day” Genesis 1:1-5

LIGHT FOR NOW: The account of Genesis was a documentation derived from a vision.

From our previous study, it is clearly seen that Moses wrote the book of Genesis. Thus, our key text was documentation by Moses. In order to understand the language of our key text which is the language of Genesis, there is need to ask how the documentation of our key text was done; that is, how did Moses document the above text? In order to unveil the language of our key text, let us historically locate when Moses born: Exodus 2:2 “And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months”. So, historically Moses was born in Exodus 2. What does this tell us? This lets us know that Moses wouldn’t have been present physically when what he documented in our key text or Genesis in general happened. Meaning God only communicated what happened in the beginning to Moses via a vision and he documented them. Thus, Genesis will be a vision’s analysis and in a vision’s analysis, there are the literal (exact) and metaphorical (symbols and pictorial) representations. Furthermore, visions always come in parts and could only be presented figuratively. A classic example is Peter’s vision in Acts 10:10-15 which reads “And he became very hungry and would have eaten; but while they make ready, he fell into a trance. And saw heaven opened and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: Wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat. But Peter said, not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, what God had cleansed, thou call not common”. Peter saw animals (clean and unclean). He heard God’s voice (kill and eat). He saw heaven opened and the animals descend and also ascend in a vessel. It is worthy of note however that the interpretation of that vision did not come to Peter until Acts 11. The interpretation of that vision was that God also granted Gentiles salvation. Salvation was not just for the Jews but for the Gentiles also. Hence, what happened in the vision Peter saw was figurative. Thus, if our key text is a vision’s analysis as we’ve seen earlier, then we must not lose sight of the language of a vision if it must be rightly interpreted, but the good news is that the epistles has interpreted our key text clearly for us and we will see this shortly. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: The epistles are the interpretation of the scriptures; don’t lose sight of this fact.

PRAYER: I receive enlightenment from your word in Jesus Name.  Amen.
