“And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves; and would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves” – Mark 11:15-17
LIGHT FOR NOW: Since prayer is a constant activity that puts diligence on the part of the one praying, then prayer is a lifestyle for believers.
Prayer is an activity carried out in reverence by man to God. Recall, it involves verbalizing our desires (requests or fixed petitions) unto God (our father). Prayer is therefore an earthly activity. It is an activity for men. It is not God that prays, it is men that pray, and it is men that ought to pray. That is why Jesus who is God as a human being or God who became a man or God manifest in human flesh prayed. Jesus prayed as a man. He did it consistently and constantly, which shows that prayers ought to be the lifestyle of men. Observe the documentation of Jesus’ words or prayer in Luke 21:36, it reads “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man”. Notice the phrase “Pray always”. It is a phraseology also implied or taught in the epistles with regards to prayer, let’s see their references: Romans 12:12 “Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer”. Ephesians 6:18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”. Colossians 4:2 “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving”. 1Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing”.
Those phrases above that are capitalized are phrases used by Paul to speak of the constancy of prayer. The phrases agree with Jesus’ words in Luke 21:36 where he says “pray always”. So, how often is prayer? The answer is always. The phrases “continuing instant”, “without ceasing”, “always with”, “continue in” used by Paul in the above epistles are makers on the subject of prayer. He lets us see that prayer ought to be the lifestyle of the believer. Prayer thus is and should be the believers’ lifestyle. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Prayer ought to be your lifestyle. Pray always!
CONFESSION: I declare that I am passionate for prayer and I am passionate in prayers, in Jesus name, Amen.
