THE GOOD THING IN YOU; YOUR AUTHORITY IN CHRIST (19)

“And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth – Genesis 1:26-28.

LIGHT FOR NOW: Your identification with Christ makes what is Christ yours.

From the analysis done so far, it is clear that the dominion or authority of the father is in the image of God. The believers’ authority is a fact of the life he has received of God in Christ. Adam never hid that life because he rejected God’s offer, so he was not in that authority and dominion. The man in Christ occupies this dominion and authority. And from the previous study, it is clear from David’s enquiry in Psalm 8 that the man who had dominion or who all things was put under his feet is Christ. The writer of Hebrews in chapter 2 says when we look at Adam we don’t see all things under him, why? Adam rejected God’s offer. That is the reason for “Be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth”; something had gone wrong; Adam rejected the authority and dominion, Jesus therefore will replenish the earth by his death and resurrection where he mass produced sons. The believers’ authority will be consequent upon the resurrection of Jesus.

The believers’ authority is not an afterthought of the father, the believers’ authority was God’s plan in Genesis (Genesis 1:26-28) which was consequent upon the resurrection of Jesus. The believers’ authority therefore was not an afterthought of God. The believers’ authority was not a reaction. So, can we call the man of Psalm 8:4-6 Jesus? The answer is yes! Can we equally call the man in Psalm 8:4-6 the man in Christ Jesus? The answer is still yes! In other words, it will thus follow that by our virtue of identification with Christ, what belongs to Christ belongs to us (the man in Christ). The authority of Christ belongs to us. The power in Christ is the power in us. The very life of God has been infused into our DNA by our identification with him; so what he can do, we can equally do. He is in authority, we are equally in authority.

INSTRUCTION: Know your identity.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for making me one with you, where all of your capacity functions through me, in Jesus Name, Amen.
