“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light” Genesis 1:1-3.
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is the answer to man in darkness.
In our last studies, we saw what Jesus meant by “the spirit of truth” and it was clearly established that “the spirit of truth” that was going to be sent to them when He goes to the Father, is the spirit of the reality of what Jesus has done (this was the realities he explained to them in context). So, the reality of everything that Jesus did is now in the spirit. So, the believer being the permanent residence of the Father is a spiritual reality. The believer being in the family of God is a spiritual reality. Paul explains these realities to the church at Ephesus, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings inn heavenly places in Christ.” So the reality of everything that Jesus has done is where? In the spirit; that is why Paul says spiritual blessings, and he explains in context (Ephesians 1:1-13) which include:
- Chosen in Him (verse 4)
- Holy and without blame before Him (verse 4), etc.
Observe verse 13 of Ephesians 1, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy spirit of promise”. The phrase “you were sealed” implies to sign off on, to stamp, seal up. It was used in ancient Greek as a proof of ownership. This means that when “sphragizo” (the Greek for “you were sealed”) is used, it is to proof ownership of one’s handiwork. In other words, the Holy Spirit is the signature of everything God has done for us in Christ. Hence, Paul explained in chapter two of the same letter; “For we are His workmanship created in Christ…” (Ephesians 2:10). Hence, all that God did for us in Christ is found in the spirit. Hallelujah!
