THE GOODNESS OF GOD REVEALED IN SALVATION (6)

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith” Romans 1:16-17

LIGHT FOR NOW: Where salvation is concerned, it fundamentally has to do with sins.

We have established in the cause of this study that the gospel is good news and in the good news of the gospel is the unveiling of the goodness of God to humanity and this goodness is seen in God’s saving ability. So the ability of God to save in the gospel of Christ is the good news of the gospel. Previously, we began investigating into the word salvation, and we have seen that it fundamentally means rescue, safety and deliverance. Salvation will not be possible without a saviour. So, for there to be “soteria” (salvation), there must be a “soter” (saviour). Meaning, the saviour does the work of saving. Who then is the saviour and why did humanity need a saviour? In addition, what happened to humanity that humanity needed a salvation are the next possible questions to be answered as we proceed.

In Matthew 1:21, we have the mission statement of Jesus document there, it reads “For she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins”. The word “save” in the above text is the Greek word “sozo”. Recall “sozo” means rescue, safety, and deliverance. Etymologically, “sozo” means to protect from danger, from harm, or evil. Now, if “sozo” means to protect from harm or evil, then the “soter” (the saviour) is the one who does it; that is, the soter is the person who does the “sozo”. The saviour is the one who protects from evil, from danger and from the consequences of sins. Fundamentally, salvation has to do with sins because it will come to fore as the study the proceeds. The rescue, the safety, the deliverance in salvation deals with sin and what came as an aftermath of sin. Therefore, salvation will be rescue from sin, deliverance from sin and safety from the consequences of sin.

INSTRUCTION: Study carefully.

PRAYER: Father, I declare that my eyes are opened up to the truth of your word, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: Salvation is in the saviour and thus, outside the saviour man is unsaved.
