THE GOODNESS OF GOD REVEALED IN SALVATION (3)

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith” Romans 1:16-17

LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s power is seen in his saving ability; that is, salvation.

It can be deduced from previous study that the good news (the gospel) carries within it God’s goodness to humanity. The goodness of God is in the good news of Christ. This goodness in the good news is his ability to save. God’s ability to save is the goodness of God found in the gospel of Christ. This is what makes the message good; his saving ability, his saving power. So within the good news of Christ is the revelation of God’s goodness to humanity seen in his saving power. Notice again “the power of God unto salvation”. The word “unto” here which is a preposition in the Greek is to let us know that it is in salvation we see God’s power. That is, God’s power is regulated to save. In Greek, that word “unto” is the word “eis” which could imply towards or for.

In essence, “the power of God unto salvation” could be understand as “the power of God for salvation” or “the power of God towards salvation”. In other words, God’s power is towards salvation or for salvation. God’s power is within the conduit or salvation or since God’s power is regulated to save, then destruction will be the absence of his power. The presence of his power is the absence of destruction; the presence of destruction is the absent of his power. His power does not destroy, it is the absent of his power; that is destruction. So, God’s power is seen where? Is it in destruction or in salvation? The answer is, in salvation. However, within the good news of Christ is a revelation of God’s saving power. God’s power therefore is not to destroy men but to save men. God’s power is not regulated to reconcile enemies to himself. If his power is to destroy and kill enemies, then we should have all been death by now because the bible records that we were all enemies, yet even as enemies which we were he commended his love towards us (Romans 5:8-10). Destruction is not in his power; rather, destruction is the absent of his power. God’s power is seen in his saving ability which is salvation. Glory!!

INSTRUCTION: God’s power is regulated to save. Think!!

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for your son who reconciled me to you in his sacrifice when I was an enemy. I declare that I am stirred up to reconcile enemies to you by the preaching of the gospel, in Jesus’ name, Amen!

QUOTE: God’s power is regulated to save.
