GOD’S SPIRIT DWELLS IN YOU (23)

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” – Romans 8:9-16

LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s spirit dwells in us not for a time but for all time and eternity.

The indwelling of the spirit implies that the spirit lives in you, not as a temporary place of abode, but as a permanent residence. Thus, it will be a misnomer for a believer to assume that he is without the spirit at any time. The indwelling is not a temporary or conditional one, rather the believer has the spirit, is in the spirit, and the spirit lives in him forever. Several concepts were used by Paul in our key text above (Romans 8:9-16) to explain the same reality.
In Romans 8, Paul describes the spirit that we have received, that lives in us as:
• The spirit of life (verse 2)
• The spirit of God (verse 9)
• The spirit of Christ (verse 9)
• His spirit (verse 11)
• The spirit of adoption (verse 15)
• The spirit (verse 16)
These do not describe different concepts, but the same with different words to characterize what we have received. The spirit of God (his spirit, the spirit of he that raised up Christ from the dead) is the spirit of Christ, the spirit of adoption, the spirit of life – which is the same as the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:14-16 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Let your realities occupy your mind.

DECLARATION: I have received the spirit which now lives in me. My body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. I am a permanent place of abode of the spirit. The spirit lives in me today and forever, in Jesus Name, Amen

QUOTE: The believer is the permanent place of abode of the spirit.
