“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” – Romans 8:9-16
LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer is God’s sanctuary; God is not going to make him a sanctuary, no!
Having seen that the promise of the spirit in the four gospels pointed to “residence” and “permanence”, it was thus clear that these accounts for why in the epistles, “the spirit within” was the focal point from which the giving of the spirit and our reception of the same is explained. Now, let’s backtrack to 1Corinthians 3:16 “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” Paul calls our body the temple of God. 1Corinthians 3:16 “Don’t you realize that together you have become God’s inner sanctuary and that the Spirit of God makes his permanent home in you?” (TPT).
The Passion Translation explains it deeper by saying we are God’s inner sanctuary, and that God’s spirit has made a permanent home in us. It will thus be out of place in a believer’s song when he is asking or crying to God to make him a sanctuary. Also, any message that tells a believer that God’s spirit in the believer is not forever, that he is in the believer until he sins; makes an error, etc., that is, the Holy Spirit in the believer will always leave the believer when the believer sins. Such teaching is erroneous because the bible’s stand on the indwelling of the spirit is “residence” and “permanence”, so if the spirit leaves us when we sin, then it cancels the truth we have been explaining so far in the scriptures. God’s spirit lives in you forever, and not even your flaws or misdeeds can cancel this reality. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: God’s spirit in you is forever – acknowledge this!
CONFESSION: I believe God’s word for me – the spirit resides in me forever, in Jesus name, Amen.
QUOTE: God’s spirit does not leave the believer when he sins because God’s spirit is the helper of the believer out of sin.
