GOD’S SPIRIT DWELLS IN YOU (17)

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” – Romans 8:9-16

LIGHT FOR NOW: The place where God dwells is man – the man in Christ!

We have looked closely at Jesus’ words in John 3:3-8 and it was clearly understood that being born again as used by Jesus (verse 3) refers to being born of the spirit. This is the NEW BIRTH. The New Birth is by the spirit – it is a spirit birth! Moreover, the word “again” as applied by Jesus in verse 3 of John 3 refers to being born from above. This implies that being born again has to do with a different, new kind of birth, and not being born (in/of the flesh) a second time as assumed by Nicodemus. The new birth therefore is to be born of the spirit. The believer therefore, is one who is born of the spirit. Paul also elucidated this reality in his letter to Titus.
Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost”. He used the terms: “the washing of regeneration” and “renewing of the Holy Ghost” not to describe two events or concepts but one and the same thing. The word “washing” here implies a cleansing, while the word “regeneration” implies a new beginning; this he also referred to as the renewing of the Holy Ghost. The word “renewing” implies that what is spoken about had no prior existence. These are terms or concepts that describe the new birth or being born again which is to be born of the spirit. Glory!
