“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things” – Matthew 6:25-26, 31-32
LIGHT FOR NOW: Rest on the assurance that God loves and cares for you; he watches over you, and will never leave nor forsake you.
Observe closely Peter’s words in 1Peter 5:7 as it comes back to us again in this study. “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1Peter 5:7). Peter also wrote and admonished believers enduring sufferings, temptations and contrary situations to cast all their cares, concerns and worries on God. This implies that the believer must not lose sight of God’s character of love and care when faced with afflictions, troubles and contrary situations against the word. The word “casting” (1Peter 5:7) implies to “throw upon”. It’s like draping a cloth on someone. So Peter says to them to put all cares, worries and concerns on God. Again the word “all” (1Peter 5:7) was translated from the Greek word “pas”, which implies “all these”. It refers to specific things. That is, it must be read within the context that it was used to understand, of the things specifically spoken of by the writer. So, what “all” was Peter referring to?
The context of his whole letter explains it; 1Peter 1:6-7 “”. 1Peter 2:12, 19 “Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully”. 1Peter 3:14 “But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled”. 1Peter 4:19 “Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator”. Evidently, Peter refers to suffering or being evil spoken of, for your Christian conduct of love, goodness, honesty, and submission in worldly affairs. Glory!
